Preparing your garden

Measurements

Make sure the you can work in your garden.  Each bed should have a 1 metre width so that you can work on it from both sides.  This avoids any damage that may occur in the bed.

Soil preparation

The most vital element of growing your garden, other than watering it, is preparing the soil.  Each bed needs to be dug up, soil turned and aerated.  This helps oxygen get into the soil which is essential for succcessful germination.  This means that you need to dig at least 30 cm below the soil so that when vegetables such as carrots and beetroot grow, the soil is soft enough for the vegetables to grow to a decent size.
